Guesthouse vs hostel vs motel: honest price and comfort comparison for Korea

After 6 trips to Korea, here is my honest take. Hostels (₩15,000-25,000 dorm bed): best for meeting other travelers, usually in Hongdae or Myeongdong, but zero privacy. Guesthouses (₩30,000-50,000 private room): often family-run, may include breakfast, social common areas, but rooms can be tiny. Motels (₩35,000-60,000 private room): the sweet spot — real private room with bathroom, amenities, soundproofing, TV. No social scene but if you want proper rest, motels win. Hotels (₩80,000+): you know what you get but Korean motels at half the price often have better rooms. My recommendation: motels for couples and light sleepers, guesthouses for solo social travelers, hostels only for strict backpacker budget.
