How to extend my stay in Korea beyond 90 days? Best options?

I'm loving Korea so much that 90 days isn't enough! I entered on a visa-free entry and want to stay longer. What are the best ways to extend? I heard you can apply at the Immigration Office or do a quick trip to Japan. Which option is easier and what documents do I need?
